We work with adults in recovery of an enduring diagnosed mental illness to access learning opportunities within Aberdeen City. We support and encourage learners to get involved in their community by accessing learning opportunities to promote their recovery.
Our team co-ordinates and supports a variety of small learning groups in venues throughout the city along with offering support to individuals to access mainstream activities arranged in partnership with other agencies.
How we can help you:
We work with adults in recovery of an enduring diagnosed mental illness who are ready to move on to new learning opportunities within the community. We do this in two ways:
• We work on a 1:1 basis to offer guidance develop a learning plan and support the learner to participate in learning opportunities and
• We offer small, informal groups in the community.
(Please note that all our groups will have a learning focus and not just be social)
To refer a client:
• Confirm the potential learner has an enduring diagnosed mental illness
• Complete a referral form in partnership with the learner – this is necessary for all referrals
• Ensure they are aware of what our service offers and what they are signing up to
• Pass on any relevant health and safety information to project staff
• Be available to attend an initial three-way meeting with Healthy Minds staff and participant
• Please inform us of any other current learning activities they may be attending to avoid any duplication.
• Learners who are currently an inpatient at Cornhill Hospital or in a residential placement can only be referred as part of a discharge plan.
• Due to the high number of referrals we receive, referral forms will be returned to referrers if not completed in full.
• As many of our groups take place in Community Learning Centres and schools, you must disclose any associated risks.
Learners should:
• Be interested in learning activities and motivated to actively be involved in developing their own learning plan
• Be prepared to attend sessions with staff and be responsible for their own learning e.g. informing staff if unable to attend and being committed to any pre-arranged courses where possible
• Be ready to engage in new opportunities and be willing to try activities out
• Be resident in Aberdeen City
